Today’s announcement by the President of the European Commission
Today’s announcement by the President of the European Commission proposing to withdraw the SUR directive and develop a new one based on lessons learned and by engaging stakeholders, provides a valuable second chance to get this important legislation right. In turn, this will help to establish a sustainable framework for EU agriculture, ensuring that our farmers have access to effective solutions to confront the challenges such as climate change and emerging pests, while also addressing the economic viability of the sector.
Facilitating market access for proven and safe post-patent plant protection products empowers the post-patent plant protection sector to equip European farmers with a diverse range of cost-effective tools to safeguard their crops. These solutions are essential as we await the development of new alternatives, including biological solutions, in the coming years.
The integration of post-patent plant protection solutions is pivotal for the future of European agriculture. These solutions not only support farmers’ profitability, today, but also enhance food affordability and security.
ECCA looks forward to actively participating in the ongoing discussions and collaborating with the Commission and other stakeholders to shape a comprehensive and effective strategy for European agriculture, our food, our environment and our shared future.
